Pharmacy USU Lecturer Educates Elementary School Students to Make Hand Sanitizer

HUMAS Pharmacy - Faculty of Pharmacy USU lecturers hold community service session 2 at UPT SDN 060796, Tuesday (9/8). Previously, session 1 was held on 19/7 with the team, which led by Dra. Singgar Ni Rudang M.Sc., Apt. consisting of Embun Suci Nasution, S.Si, M.Farm.Klin., Apt. and assisted by 5 bachelor pharmacy students, namely Murobbi, Adhe Permata Syafruzar, Nurul Aini, Angga Rafa Mahardika and Safni Wirda.

Brainstorming was conducted at the opening of session 2 for review the previously theory given in session 1 (19/7) and to check the tasks given to the participants about Gema Cermat and Dagusibu.

With the theme "Covid-19 education, making hand sanitizers, and socializing good and correct hand washing in the context of empowering students as little pharmacists at UPT SDN 060796", in session 2 the team educated students regarding Covid-19, how to wash hands properly and correctly, the potential of natural ingredients to be used as natural hand sanitizers such as lemongrass and clove leaves, as well as simulation practices are carried out.

Presented by the lead of the team, Dra. Singgar Ni Rudang M.Si., Apt., “The activity was carried out again as before, namely the Active Student Learning Method where participants who were representatives of student organizations played an active role and were expected to become little pharmacists in their schools, so that they could spread knowledge and skills acquired to friends and family.”

"We hope from this activity, students can get to know the profession, role and function of pharmacists, know about drugs, understand about Dagusibu, and also increase their knowledge about Covid-19, how to wash hands properly and correctly and how to make hand sanitizers from natural ingredients, so that they are expected to motivate students to be creative by exploiting the potential of natural materials," she said.

The headmaster, Masnelly, S.Pd. very grateful that SDN 069796 was chosen to be a community service partner. Students are also very enthusiastic, because they are not only gaining knowledge and skills, but also many prizes such as hats and little pharmacist pins, and they can even practice hand washing properly and correctly, and make hand sanitizers. She hopes that this collaboration can be carried out again in the future times.
