International Summer Course of Pharmacy 2022

HUMAS Pharmacy - Faculty of Pharmacy USU held a hybrid International Summer Course of Pharmacy (ISCP) 2022 on 1-11 August 2022. The ISCP activity was opened by Dr. Rudy Sofyan SS., M. Hum., and remarks by the dean of Faculty of Pharmacy, Khairunnisa, S.Si., M.Pharm., Ph.D., Apt. ISCP is a program that accommodates the involvement of international students and lecturers to the Faculty of Pharmacy, the Bachelor of Pharmacy Study Program as an effort to harmonize the vision of bachelor study program with the faculty's vision, that is "Excellence and International Standard".

The theme of ISCP 2022 is Herbal medicine: Technology and Innovation. With the aim of introducing the field of study program excellence, supporting USU's internationalization program, introducing local areas that have the potential to grow medicinal plants, introducing Indonesian culture to the international community, and as a form of implementation of collaboration between the Faculty and other institutions. Amount 314 students were registered as ISCP participants, including 285 domestic participants and 29 foreign participants (Malaysia, Philippines, Sri Lanka, India, Turkey).

The series of ISCP activities consisted of 6 lectures, 2 workshops, field trips, and a city tour. Where lecture activities were delivered by speakers both at domestic and foreign, namely Roza Dianita (Universiti Sains Malaysia), Ratna Saptarina (PT. Kimia Farma Tbk), Juriyati Jalil (University Kebangsaan Malaysia), Gunawan Indrayanto (University of Surabaya), Riyanto Teguh Widodo (University of Malaya), and Imam Bagus Sumantri (University of North Sumatra). Meanwhile, the workshop was facilitated by Pharmacy USU lecturers, there are amworkshop related to Extraction from medicinal plants with facilitators Imam Bagus Sumantri, Sony Eka Nugraha, Muhammad Fauzan Lubis, and workshop on natural-based cosmetics in the form of anti-aging creams and body scrubs with facilitator Julia Reveny, Anayanti Arianto, T. Ismanelly Hanum, Nazliniwaty, Sumaiyah, Dwi Lestari.

The fieldtrip was attended by offline participants in the form of observing the Sibual buali tropical forest in Sipirok, South Tapanuli as well as exploring North Sumatra's medicinal plants. The participants did tracking while learning about the surrounding plants. Not only exploring Sibual Buali, the trip also continued to Tipang Village, Marbuntoruan Village, and Lake Toba.

The field trip was not only a cultural and natural exploration trip, but also gave the participants an assignment to pick up a plant that was encountered during the trip as a presentation topic. The participants' presentations will be assessed and prizes will be awarded to the 3 best presenters. In addition, there are other categories, namely the highest score and the most active participants.

Previously, the post test was always held after lectures and workshops, the post test points were the basis for calculating the score for this highest score category.

Closing remarks by the chairman of ISCP 2022, Dr. Sumaiyah S.Si., M.Si., Apt. ISCP 2022 activities are recorded to take place in a hybrid manner with a total of about 56 hours and 2 transfer credits. The last day of ISCP activities was filled with a field city tour agenda, with the aim of Maimun Palace, Grand Mosque, Museum, and Tjong Afie's house.
